Miss Hewlings was a former teacher at Tillicum Elementary School and Esquimalt High School, where she was also the first female principal. She was a world traveler and had a fabulous collection of furniture from around the world.

Simmons, Victor A.

Victor A. Simmons was born in Victoria, B.C. in 1913 and resided there as well as in Port Alberni. He married Beth Dobbie in 1937 and they had two daughters. He was in the retail clothing business in Victoria, and has had several articles published in the Islander Magazine. Victor lived in Esquimalt from 1977 until his death in 1995.

The Roger family of 11 arrived in Victoria in April, 1908, from Scotland. They lived in tents at what is now Gorge Vale Golf Course for 6 months. Jim Roger attended Lampson St. School and was Supervisor of Boom Defences during WWII. His wife, the former Rose Durrant, grew up in Esquimalt. Her parents operated Durrant's Bakery.

Alice is the daughter of Mrs. W. H. Booth who lived at 923 Esquimalt Rd. from ca. 1920-1935, renting the house that belonged to the Wolfenden family. Mrs. Booth married a Canadian soldier in England during WWI. Mrs. Booth started the "Mothers Welcome" group.

Stephenson, William

William Stephenson was one of 13 children of William Stephenson and Rose Warwick Stephenson. He was born in Ireland, the family first came to Canada in 1913, returned to Ireland in 1915, and came to Canada again in 1923. From 1927 until Rose's death in 1939 the family ran a dairy at 257 Colville Rd. In 1943 the barns were destroyed by fire. William Stephenson Sr. worked for the City of Victoria for 32 years.

Ken Richmond was raised in Esquimalt, the son of Mary Ann and William Richmond, both from Yorkshire. He was the second youngest of 11 children. Ken Richmond worked for Burnett's Foundry, among other jobs. He married Rita.
