Emily Harrop (nee Spencer) married Arthur Wellington Harrop, who served in the Canadian Navy. Emily's parents were Albert F. Spencer and Sydney (nee Dodd). They were born in England and moved to Canada ca. 1914. Emily and her parents both lived on Foster Street in Esquimalt.
Nessie Hart was married to Fred Scafe in May, 1937. He died suddenly a few months later. She boarded with Josephine Godman on Plaskett Place after returning home from overseas duty in 1946. She married E. G. Hart in 1953.
Alf Harvey was born in Esquimalt, 1909. He was educated in Esquimalt Schools & Vancouver Technical School. Alf became a boat builder and worked at Ocean Falls, 1932-64; last 6 years as town site manager. In 1965 he was Gold River Superintendent. Alf lived in Esquimalt 1909-1922, Vancouver 1922-1932, and Ocean Falls 1932-1964. He retired to Esquimalt and died September 2000.
Muriel (Bourne) Harwood is the daughter of Herbert Frederick Bourne and Mabel Reynolds. Herbert Bourne served as the Municipal Engineer for Esquimalt from 1917 to 1937.
Marjorie Hawker (nee Coton) was a resident of Esquimalt. She was born July 12, 1919. Her parents came from England to Esquimalt where they ran a corner store, known as "Round the Corner" or "Coton's". She was a member of St. Paul's Church and volunteered at the Esquimalt Archives. She and her husband, Bill, had two children, Jeffery and Mary. Passed away August 7, 2008.
Miss Hewlings was a former teacher at Tillicum Elementary School and Esquimalt High School, where she was also the first female principal. She was a world traveler and had a fabulous collection of furniture from around the world.
Kenneth Anthony Steven Hill was born August 18, 1927, in Esquimalt, B. C. He married Betty Cleo Aitken in 1950. They had six children: Sharon, Steven, Sandra, Susan, Ronald and Brenda. An electrician by trade, Mr. Hill also served as alderman from 1969 to 1977, as mayor from 1979 to 1987, and was a member of the Board of the Capital Regional District from 1982 to 1987. Ken Hill grew up at 824 Ellery Street during the 1930's and at 3015 Quadra Street until 1950. He built his home at 365 Lampson Street in 1954.
The HMCS Esquimalt Memorial Association was formed in memory of HMCS Esquimalt, the last Canadian warship lost during WWII near Halifax harbour on April 16, 1945. Between 1989 and 2011 the Association hosted yearly services at the HMCS Esquimalt memorial cairn on the anniversary of the ship's sinking. The services are now jointly hosted by the RCN and Township.
