Ralph Butler was born in Victoria, and lived in Esquimalt. He and his wife Elsie, had two children: Robin and Janice. Ralph was a long-time member of the Esquimalt Lions Club.

Howley, Richard Alexander

Richard (Dick) was born on April 16, 1920, in Victoria, British Columbia, where his father was stationed at the naval base. He was only 17 when he started flying lessons and joined the Royal Air Force (RAF), receiving his wings on October 7, 1939. In England, on July 19, 1940, Dick's squadron was attacked by a group of Messerschmitt 109s, and suffered severe losses. Dick’s plane was seen on fire, and crashed into the sea, taking with it Dick and his gunner, Sergeant Curley. Their bodies were never found.

McGrath, Julien Joseph

Julien Joseph McGrath was born in Victoria, BC on December 26, 1922. He married Betty McGrath (nee Neilson) from Napanee, Ontario in 1948. Julien died in his home on Lugrin Place in Esquimalt on March 29, 2002 at the age of 79.

Phoebe Edith Simmons (Buxton) was born in the brick house at Fort Rodd Hill on January 5, 1911. She was the oldest child of fourteen in the well-known Buxton family and was a long-time resident of Esquimalt. Phoebe took pride in caring for her many siblings as they grew and was never happier than when she married her love, Barney Simmons and had two children of her own. Barney died in the Gorge Road Hospital in 1987 and Phoebe died at the age of 102 on February 15th, 2013 in Comox, B.C. (Source- Comox Valley Record)
