Shirley Louise Nute (nee Filewod) was the daughter of Clement and Vera Filewod of Esquimalt, B.C. Her mother (1893-1973) was born in Esquimalt to the March family. Shirley's father (d.1975) came to Esquimalt as a medic with the Royal Navy on Rainbow, 1904. Shirley grew up at 888 Lampson St. and married Daryl Edmond Nute in December 1946. Daryl and Shirley built a house at 885 Tillicum Rd. An accredited electrician, Shirley wired this house despite Daryl being a navy electrician. Shirley and Daryl had three children: David Clement, Leslie, and James (Jimmy).

Dave was born in Victoria and attended schools in Vic West and Esquimalt, graduating from Esquimalt High in 1963. He graduated from the University of Victoria in 1969 with a degree in history, and for 25 years was a curator of History in the Modern History Division of the Royal B.C Museum. Following this, he was archivist for the Township of Esquimalt until his retirement in 2010. Dave was the author or co-author of several books and had articles published in Canada, the U.S and U.K. He also wrote "First Water Tigers", the history of the Victoria Fire Department. He was an Honorary Member of the VFD and a member of the VFD'S Historical Society. Dave and his wife Linda had one daughter.

Velma Mary Petch (nee Jacklin) was born in Victoria, B.C., Oct. 17, 1911. She married George Petch, and she served as matron of Esquimalt Chapter #41, Order of the Eastern Star. Velma Petch died Sept. 8, 1996.
