              Photo is taken at the HMC Dockyard prior to the First World War 1914. Recruits drilling were mostly business and professional men from Victoria. On the outbreak of war, these men formed the members of the RCN and Companies (the Wavy Navy).

              Maritime Museum in its opening location ca. 1955. It was located on historic Signal Hill overlooking the old naval base of Esquimalt. It has relocated several times since.

              The Karluk is shown arriving in Esquimalt Harbour brought from San Francisco by Captain Pederssen for refit and provisioning for the Canadian Arctic Voyage of 1913. This whaling ship sunk in the Arctic in 1914.
