History
Richard (Dick) was born on April 16, 1920, in Victoria, British Columbia, where his father was stationed at the naval base. He was only 17 when he started flying lessons and joined the Royal Air Force (RAF), receiving his wings on October 7, 1939. In England, on July 19, 1940, Dick's squadron was attacked by a group of Messerschmitt 109s, and suffered severe losses. Dick’s plane was seen on fire, and crashed into the sea, taking with it Dick and his gunner, Sergeant Curley. Their bodies were never found.
