        Kenneth (Ken) Darrell Bendall was born to William Henry Bendall (Pop) and Lillian (Lily) Maud Mary Bendall, nee Medder, both parents from England. Pop served in the World War I, worked as a coppersmith in Halifax, Nova Scotia, then in the Esquimalt Dockyard and Yarrows. His grandparents were Frederick John Bendall and Susan Jane Louise Bendall, nee Hayes. Ken had five brothers and one sister; Doris (1920-2011), Roy (Ginger) (1923-), Frank (1927-), Buddy (Bud) (1929-), Donald (Don), and David (Dave). Family lived in about seven different homes in Esquimalt Village.
        Ken was born in 1925 at the “Rose Cottage” on Pioneer Street, Old Esquimalt village was a resident of Esquimalt, and used to live on Redfern Street, Fraser Street, Admiral Street and attended Lampson Street School in Esquimalt. When he was fourteen, he was hired on Yarrows in the rigging shop as a ‘Boy’ working up to ‘Improver’ and then ‘Tradesman’ He was an assistant Forman when he left Yarrows in 1990 after fifty years of service. Ken was actively involved with Yarrows Social Club many years. Additionally, he was a founding member of the Esquimalt Anglers Association.
        Ken married Doris Marie Sather in 1947, and the couple had five children: Darrell Kenneth, Keith, Donna, David and Kim (Donald). Doris was killed in a car accident and Ken remarried in 1964, to Elizabeth (Betsy) Norah Harrison and had three children: Danny, Ken and Kelli.
