Biographical history
Sam Ranns, Anna's husband, was the son of Mary Ethel Ranns. Mary Ethel was the widow of John Charles Ranns and later married James Quinn Batchelor on November 3, 1927. She was the matron at the Sailors Home known also as the Sailors' Club and Soldiers & Sailors Rest at the corner of Admirals and Esquimalt Rd. The building was sold in 1935 and became the Tudor House Beer Parlour.

Fonds consists of photographs of Sailors' Home (Tudor House), Mary Ethel Ranns, a written account of Mrs. Ranns' career, as well as a crock from the Esquimalt Brewing Company, and a wooden tray that has been in the family since WWI.
