Biographical history
Alfred Charles Wurtele was born in Kingston, Ont., August 17, 1897. He married Anne Sherwood June 26, 1937, and they had two children: Anne and Elizabeth. He graduated from Royal Military College and became a C.F.B. Base Commander. He served as Reeve of Esquimalt for 14 years (1952-65) and was a member of Council from 1946 to 1981. He was made a Freeman of the Municipality.

Scope and content
The fonds consists of photographs of Commander Wurtele, scenes of Esquimalt and staff of the Esquimalt municipal government; text of a radio speech; and a written history of the Wurtele family 1792-1992, along with other written and taped reminiscences about living in Esquimalt.
